TRANS SERVICES

“It feels amazing to have someone that cares about you, that you can confide in, who is helpful for anything that you don't know, like from my identity to getting my I.D. to getting the surgeries to actually having somewhere to live.” - Mia

For and by us

At our Wellness Clinic, we provide a trans/GNC (Gender Non-Conforming) affirming environment that encourages patients to develop long lasting relationships with our healthcare providers.

We believe in providing respectful and culturally humbling care that supports your health goals. We know that the trans/GNC community often faces unique challenges, including discrimination, stigma, and inadequate access to healthcare. Our work not only address the specific health concerns of trans/GNC community but also contribute to breaking down systemic barriers that result in inequities.

Transgender people may seek any one of a number of gender affirming interventions, including:

  • hormone therapy

  • surgery

  • facial hair removal

  • interventions for the modification of speech and communication

  • behavioral adaptations such as genital tucking or packing, or chest binding

Community & Belonging

We provide supportive trans/GNC services that go beyond medical care, including various programs, support groups, and outreach initiatives that are for, by, and of us. In addition, we operate Trans: Thrive, a drop-in and community center for the trans/GNC community. We aim to empower, uplift, and build in solidarity with our community.

Taimon Booton Navigation Center

The Taimon Booton Navigation Center (TBNC) is our shelter and service center for transgender, gender non-conforming & intersex people, as well as cisgender women, to find sanctuary, community, and a pathway to housing.

Marginalized gender identities often face challenges in finding safe housing due to discrimination and violence. Gender-supportive housing offers a crucial refuge, fostering belonging and safety. Additionally, inadequate housing exacerbates health issues, making access to housing a critical public health concern. At TBNC, we offer beds, meals, showers, laundry facilities, medical services, case management, recreational activities and community. It is our hope that everyone who stays at the Taimon Booton Navigation Center leaves feeling safer, more supported, and on their way to stable housing.

Taimon Booton Navigation Center is not open to the public. If you’re seeking shelter at the Taimon Booton Navigation Center, please visit Adult Coordinated Entry at 123 10th St., San Francisco, CA to get a coordinated entry assessment and access to shelter. Anyone can speak with any of our team members at Trans: Thrive to find out more information.

A DROP IN SPACE & COMMUNITY CENTER

Trans: Thrive

Trans: Thrive stands for Transgender Resource and Neighborhood Space (Trans), and Transgender Health & Resource Initiative for Vital Empowerment (Thrive)

Trans: Thrive is the new incarnation of the transgender drop-in started by UCSF and transferred to Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center. As part of the newly branded SF Community Health Center, Trans Thrive now includes all services provided for the Trans/GNC community at SFCHC. Trans Thrive is more than a drop in center, it’s services for US, by US.

We aim to create safe spaces, events and services for the entire trans/GNC community. From case management and medical services (including Primary Care, HRT and Needle Exchange), to mental health and substance use support, to social groups and special events, to a drop in center (with snacks and refreshments, clothing closet and a computer lab), we have it all!  We are trans services for US, by US. Together, we can get to health, wellness, and equality. Everyone is respected in this space!

Folks who come to the drop-in for the first time are asked to fill out an intake form and meet with a staff member to discuss expectations and the benefits of the drop-in space, which include: a lounge, computer lab, clothing closet, and other amenities. Everyday there are groups (with food) on various topics.
